Five years ago he was 9lbs 12 ounces and 22 1/2 inches long. He was in fact so unexpectedly big he spent the first 20 hours of his life in only a diaper because the hospital was unequipped with clothing for a baby his size.
Today he is 53 pounds and 46 inches tall. Still very big. Big hearted. Large in happiness and laughter. Full of faith, brimming with an eagerness to do right.
He celebrated his birthday this week.
On Tuesday he shared chocolate cupcakes with his preschool class.
On Thursday he opened gifts and blew out the candles on his chocolate cake.
On Friday he celebrated some more with some fellow soldiers at his army birthday party. Which included: more chocolate cake,
an obstacle course,
shooting targets,
and opening gifts at base camp.
He says he is looking forward to:
kindergarten
loosing his teeth
getting big
t-ball
I am looking forward to:
cherishing these precious days with my sweet, big boy.

Wow, you have me beat, woman! McQueen was "only" 9 lb. 10.2 oz. and 22 inches long. He had the same problem with the clothes. They had to go scrounge up size 1 diapers and finally found a hand-knit beanie to fit his humongous noggin.
But, your boy is linebacker big! 53 lbs!!!?? Wow. Such a cutie, too. And where in the world does time go? Love the birthday party. What a fun theme. The old-school tent is perfect!!
Oh I forgot how big he was as a baby. Holy cow! I hope YOU treated yourself to the chocolate cupcakes, chocolate cake, and more chocolate cupcakes in honor of giving BIRTH five years ago!! You deserve it!
Seriously, that little (well not so little) is the sweetest boy I have ever known:-) I loved when I was able to watch him several times and see that first hand.....the puppy kisses (licks) and his adorable personality. What an awesome kiddo!

That is an adorable baby picture!! Very rarely do you see a child who is grown look like his newborn photo!! Man 9lb+... I'd say YOU deserve that chocolate cake JL!! :) Hunter has lost weight and weighs the same as #2... but he's 54" tall!! :) I need to send this kid to dinner at your house.

So crazy that I remember when he was born...and how miserable you were leading up to his delivery. I CANNOT believe he is 5! The party looked like a lot of fun-cute idea.
He is big in every way, just like you said. The time does go by so quickly, but you are pretty good at celebrating as you go. You'll be glad you did.
